For those who wanted to read Deanna's speech, here it is:
Abortion: Silent Killer
Cries are heard from a little café in a small town. People weep and gasp with disbelief at what they have just witnessed. A ninety-four year old lady lies on the dirty floor, clutching her chest, victim of a stroke. Sirens blare as ambulances rush to see what they can do for her, but it is too late. She is already dead.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, today I will be presenting to you Abortion: Silent Killer. The scene which I have just described to you is a typical death scene. At any sign of an emergency, ambulances will arrive as soon as possible to the location. People are horrified when they witness death. But there is one death which more people need to speak out against, and that is abortion.
The Canadian Dictionary defines abortion as “the intentional ending of a pregnancy and destruction of the fetus by causing the fetus to be expelled, especially before it is viable.” This is completely legal in North America. More than 53 million babies have died since 1974 in USA. Just because of abortion.
This is not to say that people abort for no reason. There are many reasons for abortion, some selfish, or some because of a wrong idea. Often it is because they don’t have enough money to support the child. Other times it might be because someone simply doesn’t want a child. Teens usually are pressured into doing it by boyfriends, friends, or family. None of these reasons justify abortion.
The sixth commandment says “You shall not murder.” This is not a confusing commandment. You shall not kill; you shall not hate; you shall not murder. This should be enough to end abortion immediately. But people argue that abortion isn’t murder anyways, since the fetus isn’t a person yet. This is just a guess. But it is an inaccurate guess.
First of all, the Bible looks at what is in the womb as a human child. In Psalm 139:13, David says “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” If God knit us together in our mother’s womb, how are we not yet human? In Jeremiah 1:5, God says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” If God knew the baby even before it was created, why would you kill it? The Bible also says to fill the earth and subdue it. Abortion is not filling the earth; it is going directly against God’s Word!
Science also agrees with the Bible. All one-celled creatures are alive. A fetus has much more cells than that, and even a heartbeat! Anything with a heartbeat is alive, because it means all systems are in order and working. A fetus also has human DNA. How can it have human DNA, and yet not be human?
A person born missing limbs and mute is still human. What makes a fetus so different? The child in the womb also feeds off nutrients from its mother. If something needs food to live, then how can it be not yet human?
Anti-abortionists also argue that there are too many people in the world. But since when did the value of human life depends on the number of people in the world?
Abortion isn’t the only way children die before or shortly after birth. There are enough miscarriages and other diseases to add abortion to the list. These babies are our future, and we just kill them off like they don’t matter?
When a baby is being aborted, it moves away from the death instruments, seeking self-preservation. It doesn’t want to die, and it most likely can feel pain. People have no right to assume it can’t feel pain, so they can kill it in gruesome ways. It’s a cruel thing to do, and should NOT be allowed. If a murderer gets a life sentence in jail, how is abortion completely legal in North America? It’s the killing of children! People should open their eyes! It shouldn’t matter if the child is in the womb or not, it still is human. It still has a whole future in front of it, if let to live.
It’s not like abortion is the only option for unwanted children. There is abortion. You can simply keep it. Another way would be to abandon it or murder it in another way. The best option, however, is adoption. It is to give an unwanted child to someone who wants it and can take care of it.
I’ve called abortion a silent killer because not enough people are speaking up against it. Murders, wars, and natural disasters are broadcasted on the radio all the time, but people are acting like abortion is Ok, which is most definitely is not. Often people are more concerned about saving whales and trees than babies. People are just standing by and watching countless unborn die. Please speak up. Vote against abortion, and donate to organizations against abortion. Altogether, we can make a big difference. Thank you.
