Well, as with any renovation, things progress slower than you think they will. And of course there are the lovely surprises you find when you open things up.
Whoever "finished" (and I use the term loosely) our basement was obviously a professional with much attention paid to detail. Ahem. Or perhaps not.
Evidence:
(Can you see the chain it's hanging from?)
This is the bathroom ceiling.
More wonderful woodwork? Between Tim's room and the bathroom. We removed that wall, and will put his closet there, leaving room for a shower beside it. Well, in the bathroom, but still beside the closet. You know what I mean....

It just left Art speechless:

Wow, it's almost like Rick did the original Reno! It's fun to see what you've been living with when you start to open things up. One question, why not remove the old walls right back to the concrete, and give yourself some more space? I'm sure there's a reason, but I'm curious! Anyway, have fun, and be sure to call in some favours if you need them. I can think of one hack plumber who owes you one!
John. The panelling is put up right overtop of the foundation. So it would give us about 1/2" more space.
If we rip off the panelling, we have to pay to dispose of it. Hey, we're Dutch. We'll just frame up and insulate right over it. Right?
I'm really hoping it is done by the time you guys come over. REally really hoping.... maybe you can help paint!
