Tim's Turn

Tim's been getting short shrift in the blog lately, so I thought I would feature him this time. This weekend there is a Scarecrow Festival in Hyde Park (where Art's parents live). As part of this event there is a pumpkin carving contest, with first prize being a cool $25.00 cash! Tim wanted to enter a pumpkin , so I got him some pumpkins and a cool pumpkin carving kit with stencils. Way better than the triangle-featured faces we used to carve! Here's his entry:

You can kind of see where he carved his initials into the side. I think he did a great job! I'll let you know how he does in the contest.

That is some nice carving. Did he just remove the thick skin so that the pumpkin is translucent, or did he cut out the whole thing? In the dark picture, it looks translucent, but in the light picture, it looks like it's cut through in places.

Either way, good job Tim. I think Aunt Sherri would be proud. She's the artist in this house.

No, he cut out the whole thing. The dark picture looks cool, doesn't it? I think it's a little out of focus, when I use the manual settings I have to hold the camera really steady, and I don't have a tripod.

Unfortunately, the pumpkin suffered a fall before the contest, and had to be repaired with toothpicks. Nana and Grandpa were so sure it would have taken second place they gave him $10 anyway - wasn't that nice?
Deanna and the twins had a great time at the Scarecrow Festival, riding the "floating parade" as Allison put it, and came home tuckered out and full of candy!

At least you have some pictures of it. How did it look after the tooth-pick surgery?

It didn't look great, and I think an animal got at it overnight here, so yesterday morning it was pretty nasty. And full of fruit flies. It is now in the compost

Sounds like a good place for it. Perhaps he can do another...
